We had the honor of hosting Mr. Elliot Gerson, Executive Vice President of Policy and Public Programs, International Partners at the Aspen Institute for an Informal Dinner with the Aspen Romania Board, Aspen Corporate Members and one of the Friends of the Aspen Institute Romania, HE Mark Gitenstein, Ambassador of the United States to Bucharest.
The discussion focused on three main areas: global politics, national politics and local initiatives. It is clear that any country in today's world is affected in various degrees by the financial and monetary crises, political instability inside the large global players, environment or instability in the Middle East and Northern Africa. Discussions on national politics and policies went from the challenges that the current and future American administration faces to what the ambitions of Romania should be in the future European Union, as the 7th largest country in the Union. Also discussed with Mr. Gerson were local initiatives to offer the next generation opportunities to create positive and lasting change: education, minority protection and innovation were among the topics touched.
